Wow. What a great event.
Over 70 current and former students and staff attended the WSILISGRADS event held at CreAte restaurant, Mt Druitt TAFE campus. What a night it was.
Attendees were greeted by an array of amazing beverages - cocktails and mocktails selected and assembled by the professional and friendly hospitality students at Mt Druitt TAFE. A chai station was also onsite, offering the delicious drink to those who wanted something warmer.
Food was quick to arrive, and again, we were spoiled with the selection offered. The trout pie was a definite favourite, although, once again, all the food was impressive and delicious. A huge thank you to the wonderful hospitality team, who looked after us so well.
Allan Daniel kicked off the formal part of the night, with exciting news about two of our graduates and their achievements at the 2014 WSITAFE Student Excellence Awards. Fiona Ho, who was in attendance at our event, was awarded the IT and Library Student of the Year prize. Catherine Goldzieher was awarded Trainee of the Year, and also gave the student's address at the awards ceremony. A big congratulations to both students.
Allan also presented Jan Millard with her retirement medal. It was wonderful to have Jan back on campus, and she was the recipient of many hugs from staff and students.
Bonnie Wildie was next to speak, introducing WSILISGRADS and the history behind the project. She outlined the goals of WSILISGRADS and encouraged members to become active in shaping the future of the group.
Lisa Nash, from the Learning Exchange Aengus Kavanagh Education and Equity Centre was our wonderful guest speaker. She presented a dynamic and engaging presentation on the future of libraries and importance of networking. A huge thank you to Lisa, who stepped in at the last minute as our guest speaker, and who did an amazing job.
Dessert and coffee followed these speeches, and more networking was to be had. It was great to see graduates who had finished the course over 10 years ago speaking to current students, encouraging them and giving them advice about the industry.
Feedback from attendees has been extremely positive, and we are now planning for our next event in November (so keep an eye out on our upcoming events page).
We couldn't have hoped for a better event. So thank you to all the current and former students and staff who attended. We looking forward to seeing you soon.
